There is plenty happening in and around Chester this weekend, with a range of events taking place across the city.

Caribbean festival - Chester Northgate - 29 May to 31 May

A three-day Caribbean festival will take over Exchange Square this weekend, featuring street food, live performances and a pop-up bar.

Visitors can expect an open-air jerk BBQ hosted by Turtle Bay, featuring meat supplied by Geoff Hughes Family Butchers and seafood from Chester Market Fishmongers.

A pop-up bar from Carib Brewery will also be on site, with attendees able to claim a free drink token by signing up to the Chester Northgate newsletter.

The festival will run from midday to 9pm on Friday and Saturday, and from midday to 8pm on Sunday. Entry is free and no booking is required.

Roman Day - Chester Racecourse - Saturday 30 May

Chester Racecourse's annual Roman Day returns this Saturday, combining horse racing with entertainment inspired by Chester's heritage.

Alongside the racing, families attending Roman Day can expect Roman stunt shows, gladiator boot camps, themed crafts, interactive outdoor learning activities and Roman artefacts in partnership with Chester Heritage Festival.

Tattersall guests will also have access to the Paddock, Parade Ring and Pavilion lawn, offering close-up views of the racing and race day atmosphere.

All activities are free of charge and children under 17 can attend family fun days for free. You can book tickets here.

Steve Backshall's brand-new live stage show about sharks continues at Chester Zoo this weekend.

Running from 23–31 May, the new show will take visitors on a fascinating journey into the lives and ancient origins of sharks - some of the planet's most extraordinary and misunderstood predators.

During each 30-minute live performance, audiences will travel back in time to explore the earliest sharks that once swam our shorelines, discover how they have evolved over millions of years, and learn what makes them such remarkable animals today.

Chester Vegan Market returns to Town Hall Square this Sunday.

Visitors can expect up to 25 stalls, featuring vegan street food vendors, artisan bakers, ethical jewellers, local artists, environmental charities and independent makers.

The event runs from 10:30am to 4pm and is free to attend.

A description for the event reads: "Chester draws in visitors from across the whole region every weekend, combined with a large university population and the new Chester Market development, footfall on this site is always impressive."

Threads Through the Bible - Until Sunday 28 June - Chester Cathedral

A major new textile exhibition exploring creation, redemption and revelation is now open at Chester Cathedral (Nub News)

A major new textile exhibition exploring creation, redemption and revelation is now open at Chester Cathedral.

Featuring the work of renowned artist Jacqui Parkinson, the exhibition showcases three large-scale sequences - Threads through Creation, Threads through the Cross and Threads through Revelation.

Created over a period of ten years, the display is considered one of the largest textile artworks ever created by a single artist, combining intricate craftsmanship with biblical storytelling through colour and design.

The free exhibition is open daily during Cathedral opening hours and runs until Sunday 28 June. No booking is required.

Every Sunday, The Deva Tap serves up a "roast and drink for two" offer, where diners can enjoy any two roasts and two selected drinks for just £35.

With the Brook Street pub noted for stocking specialist beers from independent breweries, the offer includes any cask ale or a medium glass of wine.

Guests can choose from a range of roast options, including beef, chicken, gammon, a trio of meats, or a nut roast. Each dish is served with roast potatoes, carrot and swede mash, roast parsnips, seasonal greens, a Yorkshire pudding, chive and onion stuffing, and unlimited gravy.
