Chester will hold a civic commemoration next week to mark the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of 11 September 2001.

The service will take place at Chester Town Hall Square on Friday 11 September, led by the Lord Mayor of Chester, Councillor Margaret Parker.

Residents are invited to gather from 1.40pm at the Town Hall flagpole to remember the 2,977 people who lost their lives, including 67 British citizens, and to honour the courage and sacrifice of emergency responders.

The service will include addresses from the Lord Mayor and representatives of the emergency services, followed by a two-minute silence, prayers and a wreath-laying ceremony.

As part of the service, those attending will also remember Steve Morris, who was born in Chester in 1970 and was among those killed in the North Tower of the World Trade Center.

The Lord Mayor of Chester, Councillor Margaret Parker said: "Twenty-five years on, we pause to remember those who lost their lives and all those whose lives were changed forever by the events of 11 September 2001.

"This service is an opportunity for our community to come together in remembrance, reflection and solidarity.

"We honour the victims, pay tribute to the extraordinary bravery of the emergency services and first responders, and remember the resilience shown by survivors, families and communities in the years since.

Following the service, guests will be invited to take part in an official photograph before moving into the Town Hall for refreshments.
