Local students set to compete in art exhibition at Chester Cathedral

The Sovereign Art Foundation (SAF) is excited to announce the 20 students shortlisted as finalists of the inaugural SAF Students Prize Chester, 2025.
The artworks show the wonderful creativity, imagination and talent of Chester's secondary school students - serving as a fascinating snapshot in time into the minds of Chester's youth.
The 20 shortlisted artworks will be on display at the finalists exhibition, which will be held at Chester Cathedral from 14 – 22 May.
The exhibition is open and free for all, so please do support these young artists and visit.
The winners will be announced at an Awards Ceremony on 22 May, two prizes to be won.
The winner of the Judge's Prize will be awarded a trophy and £800. Their school art department will receive £2,000.
The most popular artwork will be awarded the Public Vote Prize, and the winner will be awarded a trophy and £400- with their school art department receiving £1,000.

It is strictly one vote per person; we want to make this a fair contest for all.
The judging panel comprises internationally renowned artist David Mach; Louise Shannon, Head of Programming at Tate Liverpool, Jim Wheat, Artist and Founder of Dollars & Art and Howard Bilton, Founder and Chairman of SAF.
Some the artworks of the final 20 shortlisted will be sold via silent auction at the agreement of each student.
Sale proceeds and fundraising income will be split equally between the student and our charity partner for the 2025 student art prize, Chester Visual Arts.

SAF runs 11 Student Prizes around the world and the Chester edition is the newest to the portfolio, joining in 2023.
The winners of the Judges and Public Vote Prizes in Chester will be automatically entered into the annual SAF Global Students Prize, showcasing their talent on an international stage and facilitating cultural exchange and dialogue.
