A historic Chester pub is gearing up to celebrate 18 years in the city.

The Brewery Tap, on Lower Bridge Street, will mark the milestone with a day of celebrations this Saturday (7 November), including live music and discounted beers.

Announcing the plans on Facebook, the pub said: "18 years of the Brewery Tap and we're celebrating in style this Saturday.

"Not many places get to celebrate 18 years, so we're marking almost two decades with a proper birthday bash.

"To all our amazing customers, our loyal regulars and everyone who's popped in along the way, thank you. We genuinely wouldn't be here without you."

The independent pub is located within the 13th-century Gamul House, which was once the Chester home of Sir Francis Gamul, a wealthy merchant, former mayor and committed Royalist.

In September 1645, during the English Civil War, King Charles I stayed at Gamul House as a guest of Sir Francis Gamul while Chester was under siege.

Local brewery Spitting Feathers opened The Brewery Tap in November 2008, bringing new life to the historic building while retaining many of its original features, including its spacious hall, high ceilings and exposed timber beams.

The restoration was recognised in 2009 when the project received CAMRA's Conversion to Pub Use and Conservation Award.

Today, the pub serves a selection of its own Spitting Feathers ales, alongside guest cask ales, craft keg beers, cider, wines and spirits.

Based at Common Farm in Waverton, Spitting Feathers Brewery combines traditional brewing techniques with modern innovations to produce its range of distinctive beers.

The Brewery Tap was the first pub opened by the brewery and has since established itself as a prominent venue in Chester's bar scene.

It has won CAMRA's West Cheshire Pub of the Year title in 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2025, as well as Cheshire Pub of the Year in 2025.
