The Silence of the Lambs will be staged in Chester early next year as part of an inaugural UK tour.
Arriving at Storyhouse from 22 to 27 February, the theatrical adaptation delves into the psychological tension of Thomas Harris's landmark 1988 novel.
When FBI trainee Clarice Starling is sent to interview the psychiatrist and infamous murderer Hannibal Lecter, it is hoped his brilliant mind will help catch sadistic new serial killer Buffalo Bill.
But Dr Lecter has questions of his own - Clarice must decide whether to keep a safe distance, or let Hannibal into her head.
John Partridge plays the sadistic Dr Hannibal Lecter, while Mollie Gallagher makes her stage debut as trainee agent Clarice Starling.
The Silence of the Lambs has been adapted for the stage by Tony Award-nominated playwright Gina Gionfriddo and directed by acclaimed artistic director Nikolai Foster.
"Thomas Harris's novel speaks so eloquently to the interior terrors that fuel his iconic characters – both the monsters and the heroes who slay them," said playwright Gina Gionfriddo.
"What a privilege it has been to bring these stories to the stage."
Director Nikolai Foster added: "At the heart of this play is the remarkable relationship between Clarice Starling and Hannibal Lecter.
"Through their gripping meetings, these two fascinating characters develop a compelling relationship. Harris's novel is filled with stunning iconography and imagery that is ripe for theatrical invention.
"We can't wait to see it burst to life onstage."
The tour's award-winning creative team includes designer Michael Taylor, sound designer Carolyn Downing, lighting designer Howard Hudson, projection designer George Reeve and composer Grant Olding.
Casting is by Harry Blumenau and Julia Thomas is associate director.
