Edinburgh Woollen Mill set to return to Chester
High street retailer Edinburgh Woollen Mill could return to Chester.
The news was confirmed in a statement released by surveying firm, Mason Owen.
It said: "We are delighted to announce Mason Owen acting jointly with Ockleston Bailey has successfully let a prime retail space at 16 Northgate Street, Chester to the renowned Edinburgh Woollen Mill.
"The return of Edinburgh Woollen Mill to Chester's vibrant retail scene is a testament to our commitment to bringing top brands to prime locations and the resurgence of retail demand for well-located shops in the city centre.
"Both Mason Owen and Ockleston Bailey are pleased to get this deal over the line on behalf of our client.
"Join us in welcoming Edinburgh Woollen Mill to Chester!"
Edinburgh Woollen Mill previously had a store on Eastgate Street, eventually closing its doors in 2020 after the retailer collapsed into administration.
The news follows a planning application submitted to Cheshire West and Chester Council, where the brand applied for permission to put up new signage on the currently empty unit.
The heritage statement explained how the proposed signs would not harm the historic value of the building or its surroundings, as the design would fit in with the surrounding area.
The application said: "The property is classified as a Grade II listed building but it is unknown who the previous occupiers were the previous signage having been removed.
"The proposal to erect new signage to the front elevation of the property will in no way affect the current access to the premises.
"It is therefore considered that the display of new signage on the property will not cause any loss, decay or detrimentally affect the subject property or any heritage assets in the vicinity."
