Comedian, author and broadcaster David Baddiel has been announced as the latest headline name for this year's Chester Festival of Ideas.

Bookings are now open for the four-day festival, which returns from Thursday 2 July to Sunday 5 July.

Organised by the University of Chester and partners, this year's programme will feature more than 100 free events across the city - including talks, discussion panels, exhibitions, performances, interactive activities, and more.

Baddiel will appear in conversation with Dr Hannah Ewence, head of Humanities, Cultures and Environment at the university, adding to a line-up featuring journalist and broadcaster Mariella Frostrup, author and former Guardian editor-at-large Gary Younge, and historian and broadcaster Greg Jenner, best known for his work on Horrible Histories.

Other guests include environmentalist Mya-Rose Craig and the University's Chancellor, Jenny Harries, who will reflect on her career in public service. The Royal Institution will also host three science shows during the festival.

Alongside talks, festivalgoers will also be able to experience Chester's Roman past through the university's virtual reality amphitheatre experience, while guided walks, exhibitions and workshops will showcase the city's local history.

A range of research and expertise will also be presented during the festival, including discussions on subjects ranging from rough sleeping and cancer diagnosis to artificial intelligence, endurance sport and the psychology behind The Traitors.

Events will take place at venues across the city including Chester Town Hall, Storyhouse, Chester Cathedral, Grosvenor Museum and Chester Market.

Katherine Wilson, director of Chester Festival of Ideas, said: "With fewer than 50 days to go, we're excited to bring people together to share knowledge and insights, and celebrate creativity, innovation and ideas.

"From talks by famous figures and the chance to delve into the past, to reflections on AI and many opportunities for family fun, there is something for everyone."

While all events are free, organisers are encouraging people to book in advance where possible. You can secure your spot here.
