Chester Repair Cafe hits major milestone

Chester Repair Cafe, a community-driven initiative aimed at reducing waste and promoting sustainability, has completed its 100th successful repair.
This achievement comes six months after first opening its doors to the public in October 2024.
The cafe is dedicated to promoting a circular economy, where items are reused, repaired and kept out of landfills.
Chester Repair Cafe has repaired toasters, vacuum cleaners, clothing, bikes, and even a 68 year old teddy bear - with the 100th repair being a Jute bag.
This milestone repair marks a significant moment in the cafe's journey, which has seen volunteers work together to fix broken items, foster a culture of sustainability and help reduce consumer waste in the local community.
Kerry, coordinator of Chester Repair Cafe, said: "We are absolutely thrilled to reach 100 successful repairs so quickly.
"This milestone is a testament to the growing interest in sustainability and the power of community.

"People are eager to learn how to repair items and keep them in use rather than throwing them away.
"We're proud to be a part of that movement and grateful for the support we've received from volunteers and visitors.
"We've had so many wonderful stories from people who have learned new skills, met others in the community and saved items that were precious to them."
The Chester Repair Cafe has quickly become a valued resource for the community, not only for reducing waste but also for bringing people together.
The cafe provides a welcoming space where individuals of all ages can connect, share skills, and collaborate to repair items that may have otherwise been discarded.
Repair experts, such as local tradespeople and hobbyists, volunteer their time and expertise to guide participants through the repair process.
You can visit the next Repair Cafe on Saturday 26 April at St. Martin's Academy, Hoole, from 10.30am to 12.30pm.
