Chester parks retain prestigious Green Flag status

Two Chester parks have retained their prestigious Green Flag status as part of a record year for Cheshire West and Chester Council's green spaces.
Grosvenor Park and Westminster Park are among 10 parks and green spaces across the borough to receive the international quality award for 2026.
The internationally recognised Green Flag Award is the benchmark for well-managed parks and green spaces, recognising sites that are safe, welcoming, and environmentally sustainable.
The 10 award-winning sites for 2026 are Grosvenor Park, Westminster Park, Caldy Nature Park, Whitby Park, Rivacre Valley, Castle Park, Northwich Woodlands, Stanney Fields Park, Helsby Quarry, and Wirral Way Country Park.
The council said the achievement reflects the work of staff, Friends groups and volunteers who help maintain the borough's parks and green spaces throughout the year.
Steve Telford, chair of the Friends of Westminster Park, said: "Westminster Park benefits from an incredible community of volunteers and user groups who care deeply about the park and give their time to help keep it looking its best.
"From junior football and cricket clubs maintaining their playing areas, to dog walkers helping address issues responsibly, volunteers carrying out litter picks, and a group of local women who lovingly care for flower beds in memory of a friend.
"Working alongside Cheshire West and Chester Council staff, these groups play a vital role in maintaining the high standards that park users enjoy and in helping Westminster Park retain its prestigious Green Flag status year after year."
The Green Flag Award scheme is managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the UK Government and recognises high-quality parks and green spaces across the UK and internationally.
