Police are appealing for witnesses after a six-year-old boy died following a crash in Ellesmere Port.

Officers were called to Anchor Drive at around 11.40am on Sunday 19 April, following reports of a crash. The incident involved a car, a black Infiniti FX30D, and a six-year-old boy.

The child was initially transported to hospital with family members. However, they later were met by police and paramedics near to Whitby Sports and Social Club, before being transported to the Countess of Chester Hospital.

Despite the best efforts of those involved, the boy later died in hospital as a result of his injuries. His next of kin are aware and are being supported by specialist officers.

A 48-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of causing a death by dangerous driving, drug driving, and driving otherwise in accordance with a licence. He has since been released on bail.

Detective Sergeant Iain Condliffe, of Cheshire Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "This was a tragic incident in which a young child lost his life, and we are committed to doing all we can to establish exactly what took place.

"As part of our investigation, we're keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the initial collision on Anchor Drive, or anyone with any video footage or the incident.

"I'd also like to hear from anyone who was present when the child was later treated near to Whitby Sports and Social Club."
