Merseyrail suspends Chester train services due to 'heavy snow and ice'
Merseyrail has suspended its Chester and Ellesmere Port services, with disruptions across the network.
In a statement posted to X, Merseyrail said: "Due to heavy snow and ice, train services across the Merseyrail network are currently suspended.
"We advise all customers wishing to travel to find alternative transport arrangements.
"We will provide regular updates throughout the day and are working hard to restore services."
The Merseyrail website states that an end to the disruption has not yet been confirmed.
It said: "We are currently dealing with several trapped trains and very poor rail conditions.
"We will provide regular updates throughout the day and are working hard to restore rail services as soon as possible."
The fully-electric battery-powered trains were first rolled out in October 2023, slowly being adopted across the network.
At the time, they were considered by Merseyrail, to be the 'latest step' towards delivering a London-style transport network.
