By Dherran Titherington 11th Mar 2026
A section of Chester's historic city walls has been vandalised, with police appealing for those with any information to come forward.
On Monday 9 March, officers from Cheshire Constabulary's Rural Crime Team were notified of reports that the historic walls in the city centre had been sprayed with graffiti.
The caller reported that they had seen four women spraying paint on the section of the wall near to the Cathedral and Northgate, which includes the King Charles Tower, at around 4.33pm.
As part of their investigation, officers are appealing to anyone who may have seen anything suspicious to contact them.
"The city walls are a Scheduled Monument and World Heritage site, this means it has very strict protections in law," said Police Constable Jono Lightfoot, of the Rural Crime Team.
"Spraying paint like this on the historic fabric causes damage to the stone and It also costs a lot of money to remove. This type of incident is a Heritage Crime and will not be tolerated."
Anyone with any information in relation to the incident is asked to contact Cheshire Police via the website, or on 101, quoting IML-2285695.
