Former Chester Crêpeaffaire site to become BBQ restaurant
By Dherran Titherington 27th May 2026
A southern-inspired BBQ restaurant is set to open in Chester this spring.
Blue Smoke Chester will soon take over the former Crêpeaffaire site at 34 Bridge Street, which closed in early 2025 after almost eight years in the city centre.
Earlier this month, Frontier Hospitality Limited submitted a licensing application to Cheshire West and Chester Council outlining plans for a casual dining restaurant with a fast-service format.
Described as being "inspired by Southern smokehouses" and "built for Chester", the venue would operate a counter-service model, with customers seated before ordering at a service counter.
Food would be prepared in an open kitchen and brought to tables by staff. The application also includes a bar serving both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, with alcohol to be consumed on site.
Opening hours are proposed as 12pm to 9pm, seven days a week. No external drinking areas are planned.
Owners say the concept will focus on "quality ingredients, proper BBQ, bold flavours and warm hospitality".
They added: "Whether you're grabbing a quick lunch, feeding the family or meeting friends, you'll find great food without the fuss."
