Firefighters sent to tackle kitchen blaze in Chester
By Nub News Reporter 26th Jan 2026
Firefighters are 'carrying out salvage operations' at a business in Chester city centre after a fire broke out earlier today (Monday 26 January).
At 1.08pm, five fire engines were sent to tackle a fire at a business in Music Hall Passage, where crews located a fire in the kitchen.
It is believed that the fire has affected the kitchen on the third floor and the roof space.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reel jets and a covering jet to tackle the fire.
Two fire engines and the Aerial Ladder Platform from Chester were on the scene, alongside three fire engines from Ellesmere Port, Powey Lane and Frodsham.
At 2.40pm, all breathing apparatus teams were withdrawn, and firefighters continued to damp down and turn over in the roof void.
Neighbouring shops were also checked for signs of fire spread, with any smoke present naturally ventilated.
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service expects its crews to remain at the scene for some time, with an inner cordon in place.
At 4.30pm, a spokesperson for the fire service said: "Firefighters remain at the scene, monitoring the building for hot spots and carrying out salvage operations.
"Crews in attendance will be reduced and rotated as needed."
We will update the story when more information is available.
