Chester Racecourse's popular Dachshund Derby returns this weekend as part of its Virgin Bet Autumn Festival.

Taking place across Friday 11 and Saturday 12 September, the two-day festival will showcase competitive racing and seasonal entertainment as Chester's racing season comes to a close.

Alongside a competitive race programme, racegoers can enjoy the return of the popular Dachshund Derby, which will see sausage dogs race for the title of 'Top Dog'.

The 12 pooches were selected via a social media competition with over 1,000 entries across Facebook and Instagram. The final declarations were announced on the racecourse's Facebook last week.

Steve Davies, COO at Chester Race Company, said: "While summer may be drawing to a close, there's still plenty for racegoers to look forward to at Chester Racecourse.

"The Virgin Bet Autumn Festival offers the perfect opportunity to embrace the changing season, enjoy some fantastic racing and make the most of the unique atmosphere that autumn brings to the Roodee.

"From competitive action on the track to the return of our popular Dachshund Derby, we're looking forward to welcoming guests for two very memorable days."

Gates will open at 11:30am on Friday 11 September, with the first race scheduled for 1:37pm and the final race at 5:03pm.

The festival continues on Saturday 12 September, with gates opening at 11:30am, the first race taking place at 1:30pm and the final contest at 5:10pm..
