By Dherran Titherington 13th May 2026
Four fire engines were sent to New Look in Chester city centre this afternoon (13 May), after a fire broke out in the building's cladding.
Emergency crews were called to the fashion retailer on Eastgate Street at 1.22pm.
In total, fire crews from Chester, Ellesmere Port and Powey Lane attended the incident, alongside a weekday fire engine and an aerial ladder platform.
At the scene, firefighters exposed sections of the cladding and used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.
Crews then carried out checks using a thermal imaging camera to ensure there were no remaining hotspots.
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed the fire is believed to have been caused by a discarded cigarette.
