Alexander's Live will host a free night of emerging music talent this Thursday evening, as three up and coming acts compete for a place at Loud N Local Festival 2026.

Organised by Restless Bear Promotions and Loud N Local, the event takes place at the Rufus Court venue from 7.30pm and invites audiences to vote for their favourite performance on the night.

The line-up includes Chester-based alt-rock act Scarper, Liverpool group Clockwork Animals, who blend post-punk and shoegaze influences, and local band Unpleasant Regulars, known for their offbeat sound and humour.

Entry is free, with the event open to music fans looking to discover new local talent.

The Deva Tap will host its popular open mic night this Thursday, starting at 7:30pm at the Brook Street pub.

Whether you're keen to perform or simply enjoy an evening of live music, the event promises a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Food will be served until 8:30pm, alongside a wide selection of specialist beers from independent breweries.

Budding musicians are encouraged to get involved, with a free drink offered to every performer. The venue will also provide professional sound equipment, including amps, speakers and microphones.

Books on the Walls will host an evening of folk horror, fantasy and ghost stories this Friday evening with historian and novelist Marisa Linton.

Running from 6pm, the event will focus on Linton's latest adult novel, Circle of Shadows, a historical fantasy set in the Edwardian era which explores the occult and ancient legends.

Known for blending supernatural themes with Celtic folklore and historical influences, Linton's work draws inspiration from writers including Arthur Conan Doyle, M. R. James and Algernon Blackwood.

Chester Craft Beer Fest comes to The Carriage Shed this Saturday for a full day of craft beer, live music and street food.

Held on City Road, the festival will feature a wide range of independent brewers, giving visitors the chance to sample unique craft beers, meet the people behind the brews and enjoy a lively social atmosphere.

Food trucks and live entertainment will run throughout the day, making it an ideal weekend event for beer enthusiasts and casual visitors alike.

A major new textile exhibition exploring creation, redemption and revelation is now open at Chester Cathedral (Nub News)

A major new textile exhibition exploring creation, redemption and revelation is now open at Chester Cathedral.

Featuring the work of renowned artist Jacqui Parkinson, the exhibition showcases three large-scale sequences - Threads through Creation, Threads through the Cross and Threads through Revelation.

Created over a period of ten years and made up of more than 25 million stitches across 44 panels, and spans more than 80 metres in total.

The display is considered one of the largest textile artworks ever created by a single artist, combining intricate craftsmanship with biblical storytelling through colour and design.

The free exhibition is open daily during Cathedral opening hours and runs until Sunday 28 June. No booking is required.
