A Chester jewellers on Eastgate Row has secured permission to install security shutters, following reports of people 'urinating' in the shop entrance.
Gasia currently has an internal security roller shutter, which obtained Listed Building Consent in 2014.
Its shop front has a central lobby leading to the entrance door, which has been subjected to incidents of anti-social behaviour, with individuals urinating in the space when the store is closed.
Highlighting this issue, the application said: "For this reason, the applicant is seeking permission to install an external roller shutter that would prevent access to the lobby."
The roller shutter is to be to the full width of the shop and installed within a bulkhead to the back of the existing fascia board above the shop front windows.
when retracted, the new roller shutter and associated mechanisms, will not be visible.
None of the proposed changes on 6 Eastgate Row would have any detrimental implication for access.
Pointing to other jewellery shops operating within the Rows, the application stated other shops in the vicinity also have roller shutters fitted in this way and 'for the same purpose'.
Upon green-lighting the proposal, the planning officer said: "To address instances of anti-social behaviour in the recessed doorway, this application seeks planning permission to install an external roller security shutter over the entire shopfront.
"The mechanism would be installed behind the re-positioned fascia which will conceal the shutter when retracted during opening hours.
"The rationale provided to justify the proposal to prevent antisocial behaviour is accepted.

"The applicant has revised the proposal from a perforated shutter to an open-link chain grille.
"This style of shutter is in the Rows conservation management plan, where additional security measures are justified.
"The chain-link shutter would provide a visible security deterrent and prevents access to the recessed doorway but still allows the shopfront to be readily visible."
Special regard given to the preservation of the grade II listed building in the application was acknowledged, indicating no potential harm to the heritage asset.
It added: "The proposed development would preserve the character and appearance of the Chester city conservation area and preserve the setting of the nearby listed buildings.
"The proposal accords with the policy provision as set out above in this regard."
