A popular Chester busker is set to stage a series of concerts at the city's historic Town Hall.

Violinist Philip Chidell, who can usually be found busking in the shadow of the iconic Eastgate Clock, will return to the stage at Chester Town Hall for three concerts.

Following on from the success of two concerts last September, which saw Philip fulfill a long-held dream of creating his own orchestra, the Town Hall dates will showcase Philip's new larger orchestra featuring no fewer than 18 hand-picked talented young musicians from across the North-West.

There will also be performances by surprise special guests.

The concerts will feature popular classical music as well as hits from the movies and the best of the West End and Broadway - on Saturday 10 May at 7.30pm and Saturday 24 May - at 2.30pm and 7.30pm.  

Philip began studying the violin aged six.

Two years later, he was offered a place at the prestigious Chetham's School of Music in Manchester, becoming their youngest student at the time. 

Philip was soon performing around the UK, and at 13 played for the first time as a soloist with an orchestra.

He has performed as a member of several ensembles and orchestras, in venues including the Bridgewater Hall, the Royal Festival Hall, Manchester Cathedral and St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle. 

Philip has since gone on to become one of the most recognisable and popular buskers in Chester city centre, where he performs regularly during the summer months.

Speaking about returning to the stage at Chester Town Hall, Philip said: "When we launched this orchestra last September, I never imagined the incredible response we'd receive.

"A couple of concertgoers even compared the experience to an André Rieu concert – which is a huge compliment.

"The feedback has been overwhelming, so this time, we've added a highly requested 2:30pm matinée for those who prefer a daytime show.

"The orchestra has nearly doubled in size, allowing us to offer an even richer variety of beautiful music.

"I'm thrilled to work with such talented young musicians from the North-West and we can't wait to share an unforgettable evening of live music."
