Looking for free things to do at Easter?
This Easter Saturday 4th April 2026 there will be a free event at Bishop Lloyd's Palace, courtesy of the heritage group 'Live History.'
The Elizabethan townhouse, built on medieval foundations on Watergate Street, will be opening its doors to the general public in addition to local heritage groups.
The day will see the launch of Chester's fifth self-guided audio tour (in partnership with Voice Map) entitled 'Chester Children's Tour II: Leeches to Fashionistas' - a family-friendly, time-travelling adventure across seven hundred years of history.
From King Edward III's physician John le Leech through to twentieth-century fashion icon Coco Chanel, the new audio tour promises to immerse its listeners in the past, utilising sound effects and historic music.
Not only will some of the voice actors from Live History's previous audio tours be there to celebrate but so too will other Voice Map creators, such as David Atkinson and Evelyn Winters.
In addition to hearing local talks on the importance of audio tours within the heritage industry, people will also get the opportunity to meet these local authors in person for book signings.
The running schedule for the afternoon will be as follows:
1.15pm-2pm) Evelyn Winters, Blessington Dolls
2pm-2.45pm) David Atkinson, Dark Chester
2.45pm-3.30pm) Tom Hudson, Live History
Get the opportunity to see inside a stunning historic townhouse, connect with local heritage groups and even get signed copies of Blessington Doll books or Dark Chester.
So if you want to celebrate local history for free or even to network, here's one way of doing it!
*Please note that unfortunately, due to the historic nature of the building, there is no disabled access.
