Welsh drama Madfabulous to screen at Chester’s Storyhouse
By Dherran Titherington 1st Jun 2026
Storyhouse will host a special screening of new Welsh historical drama Madfabulous this weekend, followed by a live Q&A with the film's director.
Wirral-based filmmaker Celyn Jones will attend the Chester cultural venue on Saturday 6 June for the screening and discussion, hosted by Empire's Jordan King.
The event is part of a wider run of screenings at Storyhouse Cinema, with tickets starting from £8.90 for Storyhouse members.
Written by Lisa Baker, Madfabulous tells the true story of Henry Paget, the 5th Marquess of Anglesey, played by BAFTA-nominated actor Callum Scott Howells.
Set in 1890s Wales, the film follows the eccentric aristocrat as he defies social expectations and spends his family fortune on theatrical displays and flamboyant self-expression, shocking the upper classes while entertaining local communities.
He is joined by his cousin Lily (Ruby Stokes) and loyal butler Gelert (Rupert Everett) as he attempts to navigate family pressure, rigid tradition and the influence of his estranged father.
The cast also includes Paul Rhys, Siobhan McSweeney, Tom Rhys Harries, Louise Brealey and Steve Speirs.
Filmed across Anglesey, including Plas Newydd, as well as locations in Caernarfon and Pwllheli, the production highlights Welsh landscapes and heritage at its heart.
The special director Q&A screening takes place at 6pm on Saturday 6 June. The film will also run at Storyhouse Cinema from Friday 5 to Thursday 11 June.
