Former Chester medical centre could be brought back into use

A former medical centre on Upper Northgate Street could be brought back into use.
Proposals recently submitted to Cheshire West and Chester Council outline plans to renovate the currently vacant 10 Upper Northgate Street, by connecting the building to neighbouring office space.
Most recently used as a doctors' surgery, the property is located next to 12-14 Upper Northgate Street - a building which includes a coffee shop, serviced offices and residential flats.
In order to join the building to its neighbouring property, the planning application proposes a single-storey rear extension. If approved, this would allow the expansion of the existing office accommodation into the currently vacant building.
The design and access statement reads: "A new ground-floor extension is proposed to provide direct access between No. 10 and No.14 Upper Northgate Street.
"This will enable the expansion of the existing serviced office accommodation currently located at ground and basement levels into No.10 Upper Northgate Street."
Located at the rear of the property, the application states that the proposed extension would not be visible from Upper Northgate Street. Designed as a contemporary addition, it will feature a flat roof and contrasting dark grey or black brick.
The planning statement notes that this approach will allow the new structure to be "clearly read as a modern addition rather than an attempt to replicate" the existing building.
