An 'upmarket' restaurant and bar is set to open at Chester Northgate.

Located next to the Picturehouse cinema, the venue, named Popina, promises to offer a relaxed atmosphere with a focus on cocktails and small plates, according to a licensing application submitted to Cheshire West and Chester Council.

Although the opening date remains under wraps, Popina has teased the upcoming launch on Instagram, posting the message: "Popina is coming. Watch this space."

A premises licence application for the vacant unit was submitted in March 2024, describing the business as an "upmarket wine/cocktail bar" serving charcuterie and small plates, all within a stylish Mediterranean-inspired setting.

Plans for the venue also reveal that "chilled out" music will set the tone throughout the space, with a live DJ providing similar music on a Friday and Saturday "to create a chilled out ambience."
