University of Chester joins Storyhouse for international film festival

Audiences at Chester's Storyhouse watched sneak previews of upcoming international films - with the assistance of University of Chester staff.
Staff from the university have been introducing films at the Chester International Film Festival, some of which are international pre-release previews and others documentaries.
In each case, staff have drawn on their research expertise to contextualise the screening for a general audience.
The festival, which runs until April 3, is a collaboration between Chester Film Society, Storyhouse and the university, and has incorporated the Student and Young Person Short Film Festival and the Chester Animation Festival.
Associate professor, Bernadine Murray, said: "We are thrilled to see academics from the University of Chester's CSELD and SCI actively participating in the Chester International Film Festival.
"This event provides a diverse line-up of films from around the world and helps foster a deeper appreciation for the arts."
Storyhouse's head of cinema, Nicky Beaumont, added: "For this newly expanded version of the Chester International Film Festival in 2025, we are delighted the University of Chester joins as an official production partner - providing speakers from a range of courses and disciplines.
"On select screenings, audiences have been treated to extended introductions which will give extra insight into the films and enhance the film festival experience for our customers."
Susanne Hodder, spokesperson for Chester Film Society, said: "We are thrilled to be celebrating the latest Chester International Film Festival in partnership with Storyhouse and the University of Chester - an annual event that brings a wonderful sense of community, uniting audiences through a shared love of world cinema.
"We are especially grateful to have university staff involved, providing introductions that are enriching audiences' understanding and appreciation of the films by offering valuable insight into their context and themes."
Students and graduates have also been part of the film festival, with film and media studies students - Hailey Passmore, Jwan Yasin, Ella Bird and Izzy McCleave, showcasing curated short films.
One of them, 'No.15', was written and directed by Sophie Lomax and produced by Adam Riley and James Wilkinson.
All three graduated from the media and television production course last year.
