Thomas Brassey statue to be unveiled at Chester Station next month

A statue of Thomas Brassey - who built one in 20 of all the railways in the world - will be unveiled on Wednesday 28 May.
Located just outside the station, Mr Brassey will stand on a section of pavement situated nearby the car park, between the station and the Queen Hotel.
The plans were originally submitted by The Thomas Brassey Society, which also launched a fundraiser for the statue.
Proposals were given the go-ahead in October last year, outlining the statue's design as Brassey reading a map of the Shrewsbury-Chester Railway.

A spokesperson for the society said: "The long-awaited and much anticipated statue of Thomas Brassey is now nearing completion, going through his final patination process at the foundry and in the next few weeks we will be making preparations for Thomas to be installed in front of Chester railway station.
"We are now preparing for a very special unveiling ceremony of Thomas on 28 May 2025 at 1 pm."
Thomas Brassey was born a few miles south of Chester in 1805, and went on to become the "greatest railway builder in the world" during the 19th century.
During a 40 year railway building career he built one third of the railways in the UK, three quarters of the railways in France and 1 in 20 miles of the world railway network.
