Teams tackle overnight leak on Shropshire Union Canal

There has been significant water loss on the Shropshire Union Canal due to a culvert leak last night (16 July).
The culvert between Knolles Bridge and Backford Bridge suffered a leak overnight, leading to "significant loss of water" between Chester and Ellesmere Port.
The Canal & River Trust has now confirmed there is a specialist team and engineers working on site to reduce further water loss.
Teams are also in the process of installing dams around the effected area, to allow for an investigation into the damage and to plan for any necessary repairs.
A spokesperson for the Canal & River Trust said: "Overnight there has been a significant loss of water in the pound between Chester and Ellesmere Port, on the Shropshire Union Canal.
"If you have a boat moored in the area and are not staying onboard, we kindly ask that you return and check your mooring lines.
"Due to the reduced canal level, the lines may need to be loosened.
"The team will continue to be on site today with a further update tomorrow."
