Firefighters were sent to a 'suspected deliberate' fire in Grosvenor Park yesterday evening (23 July 2025).

At around 9.53pm last night, one fire engine from Chester was sent to the city centre park, following reports of a suspected deliberate fire.

Upon arrival, crews carried out investigations and found several small fires - including one set nearby the open air theatre.

A bin and various park benches had also been set on fire.

A hose reel jet was used to extinguish a bin on fire and thermal imaging checks were carried out whilst other affected areas were dampened down.

Police have now been notified.

A spokesperson for Cheshire Police said: "If you have any information about these suspected deliberate fires, don't hesitate to get in touch with Cheshire Police online or by calling 101.

"You can also call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
