Council issues update on St Anne Street junction road works

The St Anne Street/St Oswalds Way junction improvement scheme in Chester is progressing.
The main junction improvement works started started early this year and will be ongoing until mid-April.
Construction work to the east side of the junction is complete and the work area has now moved to the west side of the junction.
Works are continuing under a road closure of St Anne Street junction, however, the work area has now moved to the Northgate Arena/west side of the junction to install new kerblines, ducting and street lighting.
The temporary pedestrian route and signal crossings have now moved to the completed east side of the junction near the St Anne Street flats across to the Bus Interchange.
Construction work will continue in St Anne Street junction in the new cordoned off area on the west side of the junction.
Until the completion of the works, a full road closure on St Anne Street at its junction with St Oswald's Way, will remain in place.
Access in and out of St Anne Street will be via the A56 Hoole Road/Black Diamond Street junction until works are complete.
Victoria Road will remain under a one-way closure with access in only from St Oswald's Way.
Lane closures will be in place on St Oswald's Way for the majority of the works.
Pedestrians will continue to be directed around the junction pending where the working area is.
There are temporary pedestrian signal controlled crossings in place.
The improvement scheme will include the replacement of old equipment and upgraded traffic signals equipment, plus active travel and local safety measures.
Segregated crossing facilities around the full junction will be installed, including a new signal crossing facility to enable a direct crossing to the Chester Bus Interchange.
The scheme is jointly funded by Active Travel England and the council.
The project forms part of Cheshire West and Chester Council's sustainable transport programme, which seeks to make walking, wheeling and cycling safer, easier and more accessible to all.
The junction and cycle track are part of Chester's pink cycle route, one of 11 coloured cycle routes in the city.
