A nursing leader at a Chester care village is a finalist in this year's national Palliative and End of Life Care Awards.

Jemma Sharratt, village nurse manager at Belong Chester, has been shortlisted for the prestigious Social Care Nurse Award.

The national recognition highlights her outstanding work in mentoring care teams, developing advanced nursing career pathways and ensuring the highest standards of compassionate care for residents in the final stages of their lives.

A passionate advocate for social care nursing, Jemma previously won the prestigious Chief Nurse Adult Social Care Gold Award from Professor Deborah Sturdy, as well as a national Markel 3rd Sector Care Award for her innovative approach to student nurse mentorship and clinical practice.

Jemma relocated to the Chester team earlier this year, having originally started her career with the organisation in 2002 before completing her nursing training.

She later joined Belong Atherton, where as a village nurse before progressing to Village Nurse Manager and contributing to achieving an 'Outstanding' CQC rating and Platinum Gold Standards Framework (GSF) status for end-of-life care.

"We are delighted to see Jemma named as a finalist," said Caroline Ray, general manager at Belong Chester.

"She is an inspirational leader, fostering a culture of empowerment where clinical knowledge is shared to provide the absolute best experience for people we support.

"Her dedication to end-of-life care and nursing excellence embodies everything Belong stands for, and this national recognition is deserved."

Organised by Care Talk magazine, the Palliative and End of Life Care Awards shine a light on the individuals and teams who go above and beyond to preserve dignity and improve quality of life for those with life-limiting conditions.

The Social Care Nurse category specifically honours registered nurses who demonstrate exceptional clinical skills, leadership, and a deeply person-centred approach.

The awards will take place at the Hilton Bankside, London, on 2 July.

Belong Chester supports older people through its modern care village model, offering specialist dementia care, 24-hour nursing support, and independent living apartments, all centered around a vibrant village hub that is open to the public.
