Roman amphitheatre virtual reality experience - Chester Cathedral - until Sunday 26 July

You can experience Chester's Roman amphitheatre this weekend with an immersive virtual reality experience at Chester Cathedral.

Currently under development by the University of Chester, IMITO, Julian Baum and Grosvenor Museum, the project uses cutting-edge technology to digitally reconstruct Chester's Roman amphitheatre.

Visitors can stand in the footprints of gladiators and help bring Chester's Roman past back to life through this exciting interactive experience.

The experience takes place on Sunday 26 July from 12pm to 4pm in the Cloister Room at Chester Cathedral. No booking is required.

This weekend is the last chance to see two debut productions at Grosvenor Park Open Air Theatre.

Featuring sword fights, romance and a folk soundtrack, Outlaws: A Robin Hood Story is a new take on the Robin Hood legend, following Robin and Little John as they steal from corrupt King John and return his stolen riches to the people.

Also showing is Let the Sun Shine!, a feel-good musical set in the summer of 1969. Packed with live music and dancing, it follows Harry as a colourful music festival transforms his quiet village and inspires him to follow his dreams.

Both shows run until Sunday 23 August. The festival site also features a tepee bar and an expanded food and drink offering, including craft beers and frozen cocktails.

Soul Space Chester is hosting an immersive breathwork experience this weekend.

Designed to encourage relaxation and self-reflection, the class uses wireless headphones and guided breathwork, alongside visualisation and gentle energy work.

No previous breathwork experience is required and yoga mats are provided.

The experience is not suitable for everyone, including those who are pregnant or have certain medical conditions. Those unsure whether it is suitable for them are advised to contact Soul Space Chester before booking.

Cheshire's prehistoric past exhibition - Grosvenor Museum

Cheshire's ancient past is being brought to life in a new exhibition at Chester's Grosvenor Museum.

Running until Sunday 20 September, the exhibition explores the region's geological history, from prehistoric jungles and deep oceans to the landscapes we know today.

Visitors can discover fossils from the museum's collection, including Carboniferous plant remains from Wrexham, marine microfossils from Saltney and reptile footprints found on the Wirral.

The Grosvenor Museum is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10.30am to 5pm and Sundays from 1pm to 4pm. Entry is free, with donations welcome.
