Heritage Open Days - from Friday 11 September

Chester's Heritage Open Days returns this weekend with a range of free events, tours, talks and hands-on experiences across the city.
Chester Town Hall will open its doors on Friday 11 September for visitors to drop in and explore the historic building.
On Saturday 12 September, the University of Chester Riverside Museum will open for visitors to explore its artifacts from medicine, nursing, midwifery and social work (including an original letter from Florence Nightingale).
Using local examples wherever possible, the exhibition covers aspects such as medical advances, the psychological effects of war, volunteering and volunteer nurses, a doctor's country practice, rural life, and social welfare.
Visitors can also explore Bishop Lloyd's Palace, a late Tudor town house now home of Chester Civic Trust. There will be leaflets to help you understand the building, and Chester Civic Trust members will be present to answer your questions.
You can find a full list of events and more here.
Dachshund Derby - Chester Racecourse - Friday 11 and Saturday 12 September

Taking place across Friday 11 and Saturday 12 September, the two-day festival will showcase competitive racing and seasonal entertainment as Chester's racing season comes to a close.
Alongside a competitive race programme, racegoers can enjoy the return of the popular Dachshund Derby, which will see sausage dogs race for the title of 'Top Dog'.
The 12 pooches were selected via a social media competition with over 1,000 entries across Facebook and Instagram. The final declarations were announced on the racecourse's Facebook last week.
Tickets for the Virgin Bet Autumn Festival can be found here.
Battle of Britain parade - Chester city centre - Sunday 13 September

The annual Battle of Britain parade will take place in Chester city centre this weekend.
Members of the Royal Air Force Air Cadets from across the region will march through the city on Sunday 13 September, honouring the pilots and aircrew who defended Britain during the summer and autumn of 1940.
The parade will begin at 2.30pm, followed by a service of commemoration at Chester Cathedral at 3pm.
Considered one of the defining moments of British history, the Battle of Britain saw the Royal Air Force display courage and determination that helped secure a crucial victory for Britain during the Second World War.
The annual parade and service provide an opportunity for residents and visitors to come together to remember those who lost their lives, as well as those who served during this pivotal period.
