Open mic night - Thursday 2 October - The Deva Tap

The Deva Tap is hosting its open mic night this Thursday (Nub News)

The Deva Tap is hosting another open mic night this Thursday evening - kicking off at 7pm.

For those simply looking to enjoy an evening of live music, food will be served from until 8:30pm with a wide range of specialist beers from independent breweries also on offer.

As part of its Oktoberfest celebrations, the pub will be serving steins of german draught beers in addition to its usual unique tastes of different ales, lagers and ciders. There will be a dedicated bavarian menu alongside its day to day menu, consisting of german classics and deutschland twists.

The Deva Tap prides itself on offering a variety of gluten-free and vegan options, as well as being a dog-friendly venue.

Flamenco with Rebeca Ortega-Ramon Ruiz - Friday 3 October - St Mary's Creative Space

There will be flamenco music, singing and dance with prize-winning artists from Andalusia (Nub News)

St Mary's Creative Space will host an unforgettable night of flamenco this Friday.

A description for the event reads: "Join us for an unforgettable night of flamenco music, singing and dance with prize-winning artists from Andalusia, Spain.

"Prize-winning artists include Rebeca Ortega, an elegant and accomplished dancer based in Seville, Maestro Gutarrista Ramon Ruiz from Granada who trained in Seville, and Carlos Lobo, renowned puro flamenco singer from Jerez de la Frontera now based in Seville.

"Rebeca Ortega, a talented flamenco dancer based in Seville, has captivated international audiences with her recent productions 'The Rebellion of Silence' and 'ROOTS'.

The Rubbish Shakespeare Company & Silly History Boys - Friday 3 October - Tarvin Community Centre

This Friday evening, there will be a creative and family-friendly show at Tarvin Community Centre.

A description for the event reads: "Prepare for uproarious pandemonium in a uniquely hilarious family theatre adventure for all ages.

"Two loopy Professor Doctors invent three brand-new myths live by unleashing cardboard chaos and your boundless imagination. Will your adventure unfold in Ancient Egypt, Viking fjords, or Neptune's deep? You choose.

"Shape the story, suggest the world and even become the hero (optional, shy souls welcome!).

"From the award-winning champions of children's theatre, Rubbish Shakespeare Company and Silly History Boys, comes an hour of high-octane family fun: expect clowning, improv, music, and epic cardboard props."

The Grosvenor Museum is currently hosting a free exhibition from the British Museum all about the brutal history of gladiators.

A description for the event reads: "Step into the arena where gladiators once fought and died to thunderous crowds.

This major touring exhibition brings together rare Roman artefacts that reveal the brutal spectacle of gladiatorial combat in ancient Britain – including extraordinary finds from Chester's own amphitheatre, the largest in the country.

"From the enslaved fighters who became unlikely celebrities to the vendors selling food to eager crowds, Gladiators of Britain reveals the human stories behind the helmets."

The Makers Market returns to Chester this Saturday, with over 80 stalls packed with artisan treats, handmade crafts, independent makers and local produce.
