This Sunday (14 August) there will be a free soapbox derby just outside of Chester, raising funds for a local charity.

Launched in 2022, the Farndon Soapbox Derby returns this weekend to raise much-needed funds for the Hospice of the Good Shepherd.

The free and family-friendly event will see competitors racing down Farndon High Street in homemade gravity karts.

An all-day event, the Karamba Samba marching band will open the festivities at 10:45am, with the first heat kicking off at 11am.

The last heat is set to end at 3pm and prizes will be given out at 5pm.

There will be a main food hub located on the playing fields of Farndon Primary School, found at the starting ramp, offering ice cream vans, paninis, wraps, hamburgers, hotdogs, pizza, popcorn, brownies, candy floss, churros, perogi dumplings and a variety of vegetarian options.

The Farndon Soapbox Derby has raised over £100,00 for charity since it started in 2022.

This year it is in aid of the Hospice of the Good Shepherd, a local charity seeking to enhance access to quality end of life care across Cheshire West, Chester, Ellesmere Port and Deeside.

You can find out more about the event here.
