Sherlock Holmes reimagined in brand new production for Grosvenor Park Open Air Theatre

A brand new production of Sherlock Holmes has officially premiered at at Grosvenor Park Open Air Theatre.

Directed by rising star Ellie Hurt, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes is part of the 2025 open-air season presented by Storyhouse.

The thrilling play is set in modern-day Chester, bringing the legendary detective to life in a special way.

Written especially for Grosvenor Park Open Air Theatre, the production follows detective Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson as they are drawn into their most intriguing and personal mystery yet.

The new play stars Ethan Reid as Sherlock and Alyce Liburd as Doctor Jo Watson. Victoria Brazier appears as Mrs Hudson.

The 2025 Grosvenor Park cast also includes Hannah Baker, Tom Benjamin, Howard Chadwick, Laura Chinnery, Jessica Jolleys, Abigail Middleton, Eddy Westbury and two talented trainee actors from Storyhouse – Ella Clancy and Amy Hope-Thompson.

The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes runs in repertory with Jane Austen's beloved Pride and Prejudice, adapted by Deborah McAndrew and directed by Conrad Nelson, until 31 August.

Tickets for both productions are on sale priced from £22.50 and concessions are available. All performances are captioned.

Meanwhile primary age youngsters and their families are invited to embark on an enchanting adventure in the park with the Alice in Wonderland walkabout theatre experience. 

The Grosvenor Park festival site includes a tepee bar, seating areas, fresh wood-fired pizzas, a barbecue, craft beers and frozen cocktails. 

In addition, a series of special events are also taking place over the two-month open-air season, including Comedy in the Park on Sunday 24 August.
