Search for missing person in River Dee called off after two weeks
By Dherran Titherington 17th Mar 2026
Two weeks of searches have ended following reports of a person spotted in the River Dee earlier this month.
On Tuesday 3 March at around 4.20pm, police received reports of a person who had been seen in the river near to Lower Park Road, Chester.
Police, Cheshire Fire and Rescue, and other emergency services responded, with two fire engines from Chester and additional units from Powey Lane, Ellesmere Port, Warrington, and Knutsford. They were supported by a technical rescue unit, two rescue boats, and an aerial ladder platform.
Water rescue-trained firefighters used boats to search the river for a potential casualty. When no one was found, fire resources were withdrawn, and the incident was handed over to police.
Over the following two weeks, police conducted extensive searches along the River Dee, from Lower Park Road in Chester to the Saltney area - using specially trained search officers, the force drone, the Under Water Search Team, and Cheshire Search and Rescue.
However, police have now confirmed that no one was found, with the search effort having been called off.
A spokesperson for Cheshire Police said: "Following the report of a person being spotted in the River Dee on 3 March there have been two weeks of extensive searches on and by the River Dee near Lower Park Road in Chester up to the Saltney area, with the help of our own specially trained search officers, the force drone, the Under Water Search Team, and Cheshire Search and Rescue.
"Despite the thorough searches no one has been found and we have now concluded our efforts on the water. If any new information comes to light, we will of course resume our search."
Anyone with information should contact Cheshire Police on 101 quoting IML 2281730.
