Chester's Champagne + Fromage is set to reopen later this month under new local ownership.

The Watergate Street wine bar is due to open its doors again on Tuesday 15 September, following its sudden closure earlier this year.

Having first opened its Chester site in late 2024, the bar served a selection of Champagne, French wines, cheeses and cocktails.

It has now been confirmed that the new owners of the Watergate Street venue, Caroline and Kyle, are putting together a team ahead of the bar's return.

A spokesperson for Champagne + Fromage said: "We are genuinely excited to be bringing Champagne + Fromage back to Chester under completely new local ownership.

"Caroline and Kyle are building a new team and investing in the business with a long-term commitment to the city.

"This is a new chapter for Champagne + Fromage in Chester, with closer financial and operational support from UKCHF Limited as franchisor."

The business has also addressed concerns surrounding the previous closure, saying the former Chester restaurant was operated by a "separate, independently owned franchise business", which was "responsible for its employees and supplier obligations".

The spokesperson added: "We understand the concerns surrounding the previous closure.

"We nevertheless recognise the impact the closure had on confidence in the Champagne + Fromage name and take that seriously.

"Ultimately, confidence will be earned through how the new business operates, and we are very much looking forward to welcoming Chester."

The Champagne + Fromage brand was founded in Covent Garden in 2011 and has since expanded to locations including Bath, Brixton, the Isle of Wight and Greenwich.

Its food and drink offering focuses on products sourced from small independent producers in France, with cheeses and wines paired together.
