Since launching the site in late November last year, Chester Nub News has covered a range of stories.

We are taking a look back at the year to highlight some of the stories you may have missed.

Here are the most read Chester news stories so far, for 2025.

In January, news broke that filming had begun for a brand new Amazon Prime TV series, based on Chester's most haunted hotel.

Based within Ye Olde King's Head, the project had been ten years in the making.

At over 400-years-old, the building has had over two thousand eye-witness accounts and 'reports of paranormal activity' spanning over decades.

The 'docu-series' has since landed on Amazon Prime, offering a fascinating insight into the behind the scenes of the supposedly paranormal hotel.

"Why wouldn't you have a bar in a bookshop?" - Book bar coming to Chester

Megan Nicolaides and Megan Yapp gear up to launch Chester's newest independent bookshop and wine bar (Image via: Kurt Thomas)

In April it was announced that two childhood best friends were gearing up to launch Chester's newest independent bookshop and wine bar.

Influenced by a desire to create a spot they would personally choose to spend their time and money, the act of combining a wine bar and book-shop felt somewhat obvious to the duo.

It has since been revealed, however, that the location they had in mind had fallen-through.

Originally set to open in August, Chapters' location is still yet to be confirmed. Fingers crossed for the pair!

In April, we revealed that Ikea had plans to bring the store to Chester's Greyhound Retail Park.

With a specific opening date yet to be confirmed, it forms part of the retailer's expansion plans to be closer to where customers live, work, socialise and do their daily or weekly shopping.

The store is the latest in a series of smaller formats that IKEA is opening in the UK, providing the "classic IKEA experience that customers know and love" on a smaller scale.

The winner of a brand new BBC Two series was coincidentally also one of Chester Nub News' first interviewees.

We first announced the news that Chess competitor and Chester local, Thalia Holmes, was to feature on a brand new BBC Two series back in March.

Hosted by Sue Perkins, 'Chess Masters: The Endgame' is a high-stakes chess contest, following twelve chess rising stars. Across eight episodes, players from all backgrounds battled it out to be crowned Chess Champion.

Chester's first poke bowl spot to open on Northgate Street

A story which caused quite the conversation online was the announcement of Chester's first ever poke bowl bar.

Launched by two Chester locals, Poké Bowl is now open next door to Porta on Northgate Street.

Co-owners Shaf and Lydia wanted to bring "something brand new" to the local food scene, offering customisable poke bowls, açai bowls, superfood smoothies, matcha, coffee, brunch options and more.

The last story on this list is also one of the saddest stories we have had to write.

Stephanie Blundell was pronounced dead following an incident at an address on Canal Street, Chester, on Sunday 20 July.

Her family paid tribute to their "fun-loving, caring and beautiful" daughter, sister, aunty and friend, as they said: "Whilst the void in all our lives will never be filled, you'll stay in our hearts forever and never be forgotten.

"We will never let what has happened define you or be your lasting legacy."
