A man has died following a crash on Hoole Bridge in Chester in the early hours of Thursday (21 May), which led to multiple road closures and a significant police presence.

A number of roads were shut while emergency services dealt with the incident and investigations were carried out at the scene.

Road closures were in place on Station Road, Hoole Way, Black Diamond Street, Ermine Road and Lightfoot Street. Motorists were advised to avoid the area, with severe congestion reported across Chester throughout the morning.

Police have now confirmed the collision involved a cyclist and a silver Toyota Yaris.

The cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
