A charity gig will be held in Chester next month in memory of a driving force behind the city's indie music scene.

A long-time employee of Brook Street's Grey n Pink Records, Paul Hickman worked at the record store for over 30 years - alongside colleague Neil Davis and owner Michael Moran.

Paul passed away early this year after suffering a stroke, with the news of his death causing shockwaves throughout the Chester community.

On Saturday 28 March, the city will celebrate and remember "one of Chester's very best", with a tribute night at St Werburgh's Parish Centre.

Raising funds for Liverpool's Walton Centre, which cared for Paul after his stroke, the event will feature a line‑up of artists who were not just favourites of Paul's, "but close friends too" - such as Toria Wooff, Mighty Atomizer, Sonic Trip Project, and Electric Blues Factory.

Psychedelic visuals will be created live by Richard Starbuck, with sound engineered by DAR Audio, "ensuring the night feels every bit as immersive as the gigs Paul loved".

Organised by Roman Candle Promotions and Circl8 Radio, tickets can be purchased from Grey & Pink Records, or on the door on the night.

Dan Schott, co-chair of Circl8 Radio, said: "Paul was one of the gentlest people you could hope to meet, but he carried a razor‑sharp wit and a musical mind that was second to none.

"He was a huge champion of Chester's live music scene, and if you ever spotted him at a gig, you knew you were in for something special.

"His presence at Grey & Pink Records shaped the soul of the shop, and the depth of music knowledge we've lost with him is impossible to measure.

"Paul had a way of connecting people to the right record, the right artist, the right moment. His absence will be felt by everyone who loved him, learned from him, and relied on that quiet brilliance he shared so generously."
