Plans for up to 40 homes on land near Chester have been submitted, with residents raising concerns about the impact of additional housing.

Submitted to Cheshire West and Chester Council, proposals concern land off Crewe Lane in Farndon, south of Chester.

Covering around 3.36 acres, the site is located on the edge of the village, bordered by existing residential development to the north.

Featuring 30% affordable housing and 70% private homes, plans for the development also include associated parking, landscaping and a public open space.

The homes would be a mix of one and four-bed homes, including detached, semi-detached and mews properties.

Located close to a range of local amenities in Farndon, the proposed site is nearby shops, eateries, schools, churches and a doctor's surgery. It is also within walking distance of open space at Farndon Community Club.

Farndon residents, however, have raised concerns about the development's potential impact, highlighting issues such as pressure on local infrastructure, school places and GP services - alongside traffic levels, parking and drainage.

In the objections received, some residents state that roads in the area are already struggling with existing traffic, with others raising concerns about safety at the junction used to access the village.

It was also noted that Farndon has already seen significant housing development in recent years, and believe further homes could place additional strain on local services.

The applicant argued the scheme would help address housing demand, stating that Cheshire West and Chester Council has not consistently met its identified housing requirements, creating pressure to bring forward deliverable housing sites.

A public footpath also currently runs through the site. Documents say the existing access points are poor and require pedestrians to walk along parts of the road without a pavement. Proposals include the possible rerouting of the footpath, to create a safer route connecting directly to the village footway network.

The design and access statement outlines the development as representing a sustainable extension to the settlement, given the site's location next to the village and its access to services and infrastructure.
