Illegal e-bikes and off-road vehicles were targeted across Chester last week as part of a police crackdown under Operation Lawmaker.

On Thursday 23 July, officers were deployed across the Chester Local Policing Unit (LPU), with a particular focus on tackling the illegal use of off-road vehicles.

The operation followed a number of recent incidents involving illegal e-bikes and the anti-social use of vehicles across the city.

During the day of action, officers seized nine vehicles for offences including having no insurance and driving without a licence. One person was arrested on suspicion of drug driving, while another was arrested for driving while disqualified.

A PG9 prohibition notice was also issued for a vehicle found to be in a dangerous condition.

In addition, officers issued six traffic offence reports, and one man was reported for summons to court.

Inspector James Wilson said: "We recognise how disruptive the use of illegal e-bikes, e-scooters, and dangerously ridden off-road vehicles are to residents and this operation sent out a clear message that the illegal use of vehicles will not be tolerated, and we will use a range of resources to tackle this issue."

"You can report issues of this nature to Cheshire Police by calling 101 or visiting the Cheshire Police website. In an emergency, always dial 999."

Operation Lawmaker brought together officers and specialist resources from the Chester Beat Management Team, Western Problem Solving Team, National Police Air Service (NPAS) Fixed Wing Aircraft, Bike Unit, Roads and Crime Unit, and the Force Control Centre.
