A new archive centre is set to open in Chester early next year.

Located on the site of the former Enterprise Centre in Hoole, Cheshire Archives Chester will document the development of the county from the Middle Ages to the present day.

Due to open on Wednesday 13 January 2027, the centre is one of two new state-of-the-art facilities that will house Cheshire's archives. A second centre is being built at Memorial Square in Crewe.

The centres will safeguard the county's historic records for future generations while making the collections more accessible to local people.

Cheshire's Archives: A Story Shared will give residents the opportunity to explore the county's history through research, access to expert staff and volunteers, and a programme of exhibitions and events.

The new facilities will also provide additional exhibition space and act as bases for taking the archives to wider audiences across Cheshire.

Both centres will open from Wednesday to Saturday, between 9.30am and 4.30pm.

The project has received council funding, alongside support from The National Lottery Heritage Fund and the Wolfson Foundation, an independent charity focused on research and education.
