More than 1,000 free tickets will be available this summer as Chester BID brings back its 'Summer in the City' campaign for the school holidays.

Running from 27 July to 2 August, the programme will run over five themed weeks, with tickets released via the Chester BID newsletter ahead of each activity.

The initiative is designed to encourage families to explore Chester and take part in a range of free experiences throughout the summer period.

"We're really pleased to be bringing 'Summer in the City' back after the brilliant response we had from families last year," said Carl Critchlow, Chief Executive of Chester BID.

"It's all about helping families enjoy quality time together over the school holidays while showing off the fantastic experiences we have right here in Chester city centre.

"Together, we're helping people make the most of everything Chester has to offer and creating great summer memories in the city."

Families are being encouraged to sign up in advance to secure access when allocations are released

The opening week will focus on cinema and theatre, with free screenings at Picturehouse Chester, including family films, alongside performances of Peter Pan at Grosvenor Park Open Air Theatre as part of Storyhouse's programme.

Week two will centre on river activities, offering free 30-minute cruises on the River Dee with ChesterBoat.

The following week will feature leisure-based activities including entry to the Deva Roman Experience, Challenge Point Chester, The Hole in Wand Chester and swimming at Brio Northgate Leisure Centre.

Week four will offer free open-top bus tours with City Sightseeing Chester, showcasing key landmarks and the city's historic centre.

New for 2026, the final week will feature social and interactive activities at Rooftop Social Club Chester, including karaoke and shuffleboard, alongside duckpin bowling at Spinners Chester.

Chester BID said the campaign aims to help families make the most of the school holidays by offering free access to a wide range of city-centre experiences.
