Man found dead on Chester towpath

A man was found dead on a towpath in Chester this morning, police have confirmed.

Cheshire Police were called to the scene off Northgate Street at 8.34am this morning to reports of an 'unresponsive man'.

However, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say there is no threat to the wider public and no suspicious circumstances were reported.

A statement from Cheshire Police said: "At 8.34am this morning (Thursday 2 January) police were called to the canal towpath off Northgate Street in Chester following reports of an unresponsive man.

"Sadly, the man was confirmed as deceased at the scene.

"There are no suspicious circumstances and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
