A local pupil has won a competition to design a new flag for Chester Racecourse ahead of its Family Fun Day fixture.

Grosvenor Park CofE Academy was invited by Chester Racecourse to take part in the competition, with pupils challenged to create a flag that captured the character and excitement of the venue.

Year six pupil Bella impressed judges with her colourful and creative design, which was chosen to represent both the city of Chester and the racecourse.

Her winning design will now be displayed at the venue's main entrance during Family Fun Day on August 2.

Two runners-up were also recognised for their entries and have each received free tickets for their families to attend the event.

Judges praised Bella's artwork for its eye-catching style and the thought she had put into creating a design that reflected Chester and a day at the races.

Louise Stewart, CEO at Chester Race Company, said: "Chester Racecourse is an integral part of the city, so it means a lot to us to involve local children and families in what we do.

"We had some fantastic entries to the competition, with lots of effort and imagination on show, so it was a tough decision.

"Bella's design captures the colour and excitement of a day at the races brilliantly and we can't wait to see it flying at the entrance."

Family Fun Day, taking place on Sunday 2 August, is one of Chester Racecourse's biggest summer events, combining racing with family entertainment.

The event will include hands-on activities, live music and appearances from children's favourites Chase and Skye from PAW Patrol, who will be available for meet and greets.

There will also be tribute performances celebrating artists including K-Pop Demon Hunters, Sabrina Carpenter, Olivia Rodrigo and Miley Cyrus, alongside a family-friendly rave hosted by Raver Tots.

Louise added: "Family Fun Day is designed to give families a great day of entertainment, activities and racing in one place.

"With children able to attend our race fixtures for free, it offers real value for families looking for a memorable day out together."
