A local community group has raised more than £1,800 for Clatterbridge Cancer Charity after being inspired by a family member's cancer diagnosis.
Members of Gothic Lodge No. 5754, who meet at Cheshire View, Christleton, were inspired to raise the funds after Sara, wife of Lodge Secretary Martin, began treatment for breast cancer in 2025.
During her care at Clatterbridge, the family discovered they were not alone in their experience, with several other lodge members and their families also receiving treatment from the hospital's specialist teams.
Moved by the compassion and support shown by staff, the group raised £1,825 through two main fundraising events.
These included a 'Christmas Ladies to Dine' evening, which provided an early boost to the appeal, followed by a charity ball held in honour of Clatterbridge and those currently undergoing cancer treatment.
A spokesperson for Gothic Lodge No. 5754 said the donation represented far more than financial support.
They said: "It reflects the very heart of who we are. Every ticket purchased, every raffle ticket entered, and every single donation made has contributed to helping Clatterbridge continue its life-changing work for families just like ours."
Following the events, the lodge also secured additional support through the Cheshire Freemasons Charity, helping bring the total raised to £1,825.
The spokesman added: "Gothic Lodge No. 5754 extends its most heartfelt thanks to everyone who attended, donated, supported, or helped organize these events.
"This collective kindness will directly support Clatterbridge Cancer Charity in providing world-class care and vital research for cancer patients across the region."
