An award-winning cake shop launched in Chester this weekend, with the Bishop of Chester officially opening the store.

Abba Cakes, led by by Colombian-born patisserie chef and founder, Laura Johnson, is known for its beautifully crafted cakes and desserts.

The shop's award-winning 'Britain's Best Cake' sold out within just an hour and a half of opening, as a constant queue of customers filled the street throughout the day.

The Bishop of Chester, Mark Tanner, officially opened the shop and led a prayer, blessing the new venture and all those involved.

"Chester, I can't even put into words how thankful I am for everyone who came to the opening," said founder, Laura Johnson.

"The love and support you've shown means the world. There were times, especially the night before we opened, when I wasn't sure we'd make it, but we did.

"It's been such a tough few months, but I'm so proud of my team, my friends and my family and grateful for every single person who lifted us up along the way."

From Wednesday (15 October) onwards, Abba Cakes will open Tuesday to Saturday from 10am to 5pm - serving its signature cakes, brownies, cookies and cupcakes, all freshly baked on-site.

The menu will change seasonally, with new flavours and limited-edition bakes introduced throughout the year.

Laura also plans to host a series of cake-decorating and themed events inside the shop, offering something special for local cake lovers to enjoy.
