Former Northgate Street bridal boutique to become 'Wonky Tusk' bar
By Dherran Titherington 17th Jun 2026
A new bar could replace a former bridal boutique on Northgate Street.
In a licensing application submitted to Cheshire West and Chester Council, licensee Desmond Richard Piercy revealed plans to convert 64 Northgate Street into a "small bar" named Wonky Tusk.
He outlined the venue's capacity of "approximately 30 to 35 people", and indicated plans to apply for a pavement license, citing the use of outdoor seating for other similar businesses on Northgate Street.
If approved, the new bar would operate from 7am to 11.30pm from Sunday to Thursday, closing an hour later on Friday and Saturday.
The venue was formerly home to My Funny Valentine Bridal, which officially closed its doors earlier this month. Owner Hanni Frankland-Roberts cited growing family responsibilities as reasons behind the closure.
The former solicitor opened the business in 2021 and said running the shop had been "truly magical" and a "privilege".
In a statement, she said: "Running a business on your own whilst raising two very young children has been the biggest juggle, and if I'm honest, a sacrifice at times. As proud as I am of what we've built, I know it's now time to give my energy fully to my number one priority."
