Motorists could face camera enforcement at eight more locations in Chester under new council proposals.

Cheshire West and Chester Council has launched a six-week public consultation on expanding its Moving Traffic Enforcement scheme to 11 locations across the borough, including eight in Chester.

Four sites will be selected for enforcement later this year, with a further four planned in 2027.

The proposals relate to existing traffic restrictions, including banned turns, yellow box junctions and weight limits. The consultation will decide whether those restrictions should be enforced using automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras.

Proposed Chester sites include Cuppin Street/Grosvenor Street, where a no right turn restriction is in place; St Martin's Way/Hunter Street, which has a no U-turn restriction; and Grosvenor Road/Castle Drive, where no right turn in and no right turn out restrictions apply.

The plans also cover the yellow box junctions at the A55 slip road/Vicars Cross, Nicholas Street/Weaver Street, St Martin's Way/Princess Street and St Martin's Way/Hunter Street/Sens Close.

Residents can have their say through an online survey, by requesting a paper copy or alternative format, or by contacting the council by telephone, email or post.

Shortlisted locations were chosen following a review of 24 sites, with the council assessing factors including road safety, traffic congestion, driver compliance, public feedback and whether camera enforcement was the most appropriate solution.

The restrictions at all 11 locations are already in place, with the consultation focusing solely on whether cameras should be used to improve compliance.

Cllr Bingham said: "The consultation will gather feedback on the proposed use of camera enforcement at each location, before any implementation decisions are made.

"We would like to progress four locations this year where enforcement is most likely to deliver the greatest road safety, congestion management and compliance benefits."

If approved, camera enforcement would be introduced at four locations this year, with a further four following in 2027.
