Firefighters battle early morning blaze on Chester canal boat
By Dherran Titherington 5th Oct 2026
Firefighters tackled a large canal boat fire in Chester city centre in the early hours of Sunday morning.
At around 5:06 am on Sunday 4 October, two fire engines from Chester were called to the scene along the canal off Frodsham Street.
Crews arrived to find a barge well alight. Firefighters used two breathing apparatus, a hose reel, and a main jet to extinguish the flames.
Water supplies were secured using a nearby hydrant and a portable pump. After putting out the fire, crews secured the barge to the canal towpath to prevent it from drifting.
Cheshire Police has been contacted for comment.
